When it comes to SUVs, most people want to get their hands on a Land Rover. For decades, Land Rover have been at the top of the charts, regarding large four-wheel drive vehicles. If you ever wanted an off-road car or a large vehicle for your family, they were the company to turn to.
It’s 2016 and things haven’t changed one bit. Land Rover are still the leading authority on SUVs. There are now plenty of models for plenty of people. Today, we take a look at one of the newest editions to their line, the Discovery Sport. Land Rover Discovery’s have been around for years, but this sporty version hasn’t been on the market for that long. So, what’s so great about it, and can it stand up to the other SUVs on the market?
The first thing you notice about the Discovery Sport is its performance. Seeing as it’s making a claim to be a sporty version of the Discovery, you expect it to be quicker. Well, strangely enough, it only packs a 2.0-litre engine compared to the standard Discovery’s 3.0. The top speed is slightly better in the Sport when compared to its big brother. Also, 0-60 can be done a wee bit quicker too. All in all, it’s faster, but not by a big margin. You’ll also get a set of reliable tyres that can deal with all sorts of terrain. They grip well on the road, and make driving off – road easy.
The unique selling point of this car is its versatility. When you look at it, it’s a much more compact and sporty looking Land Rover Discovery. As a result, it’s better for making quick trips around town and navigating city roads. However, you don’t lose the classic Land Rover edge. You can still go off-road and enjoy a comfortable drive. You’re able to tow things with this car too, as well as drive through relatively shallow streams. You get the Land Rover experience, in a vehicle that’s capable of being an everyday city car.
One of the biggest differences between this car and its big brother is the price. As you can see on the Hunters Land Rover website, the Discovery Sport is considerably cheaper. You’re able to pick a brand new one up for around £10,000 cheaper than the regular Discovery. Now that’s a lot of money. It’s enough money saved to go out and buy another car or two! If you want a Land Rover, but don’t want to pay too much money, the Discovery Sport is probably perfect for you.
In addition to the points above, the car can also boast some brilliant technology. Both to help with performance and driver experience. The dashboard is hi-tech and has a clear screen that lets you control anything you want. Under the hood, there’s technology in the suspension and brakes to help make the vehicle easier and smoother to drive.
It’s fair to say that the Discovery Sport might not be for everyone, but it’s a very decent car. If you want a compact SUV that’s cheaper than most other SUVs, this is the car of your dreams. Is it the ultimate SUV? Probably not, but it will get the job done without any fuss at all.
